‘Amy and the Airship’ tells the story of a little girl who lives as a stowaway on an immense airship.
AN INTRODUCTION
“Your very own City in the Sky.
Travel the world in style.
Go by AIRSHIP!”
Her earliest memories are of this place. The Airship! A thousand meters long; endless rooms, corridors, halls and balconies; hundreds of passengers from all over the world; staff, engineers, soldiers and captains; and the whole world drifting by beneath them.
However, for Amy, this Airship is her whole world. A world where she is small enough to slip between the cracks and find her own hidden spaces where others could never go. A world that she knows like the back of her hand. A would where she has learned how to survive. A world where, ultimately, she knows she isn’t welcome. But she knows well enough that, when it comes down to it, there’s nothing they can do. There is nowhere that Amy cannot go aboard her Airship.
We meet Amy while she people-watches amongst the crowds of passengers who have flocked to the main balcony on a beautiful day. The Airship makes its gentle way above a gentle ocean, the wind is low, the sun is bright, and the smell of food and the buzz of conversation fills the air.
It’s the appearance of a mysterious stranger that pulls Amy’s attention for a moment. Striding right past her - nearly knocking her down! - and then moving swiftly through the crowds of bustling passengers with purpose and a look of sinister intention in his darting eyes. This sinister stranger makes his way towards one of the entrances to the Airship’s sprawling interior…
Naturally, and with not even a flicker of doubt, Amy decides to follow him. She doesn’t like the look of him and, naturally, she must take care of her Airship!
